LiLF Session 1 – a corpse and the Incontinent Vicar

Present: JamesĀ (Montgomery), Gaz (George), Dave (Joey), Ben (Frederik)
The players rolled up characters and found themselves on the road in Lower Franconia, a rural region of Germany embroiled in a war between Catholics and Protestants.
Their coach broke down and they’ve spent the day trudging along the road towards Wurzburg. It’s night but a fellow traveller told them of an inn, the Incontinent Vicar, up ahead at which they intend to seek refuge.
As darkness had fallen Montgomery led the way with his lamp and noticed feet sticking out of a bush. The party discovered the bodies lack of gear, scuffed knuckles and a deep sword wound to his back. Frederik didn’t want to leave the body so Joey helped him carry it to the lights in the distance they hoped was the inn.
The Vicar’s inkeep, Cameron Fiddlesticks aka Doodles, welcomed the party and offered them warmth, drink and shelter in the common room in exchange for interesting discourse. He’s been bored sat in here alone.
When Frederik entered with the body Cameron was distressed and wanted it covered at least, offering a blanket from the storeroom. Frederik decided to take the body outside and find a place to stow it with some shelter. The coachhouse, crammed as it is with 2 coaches and 16(!) horses, seems like a poor place to leave a corpse so he sheltered it as best he could in the cover provided by the fence which marks the Incontinent Vicar’s perimeter.
Over warm mead Fiddlesticks told the party how Karlstadt was taken over by sorcerers 10 days ago, and how the Swedish army is marching on Wurzburg and are only about a week’s march away.
The adventurers discuss these topics, and their reasons for being in the area, whilst the dry out by the inn’s fire.
