The next campaign I run will be the Pathfinder Hell’s Rebels Adventure Path, here’s a quick intro and character building info post for my players.
Overview
Infernal Cheliax is one of the most powerful military nations in the Inner Sea. The national faith is diabolism and Asmodeus, the most powerful archdevil and the only one to claim full divinity.
The empire of Cheliax runs on the backs of fiends and morality surrenders to the needs of law and order. Cheliax is Lawful Evil, ruled by Queen Abrogail Thrune II of the thrice-damned house of Thrune. Her house rose to power through pacts with Devils.
Law in Cheliax focuses on maintaining order and quelling dissent, this gives a lot of physical peace and order allowing the lives of common folk to proceed normally. The laws are expansive and intrusive but rarely enforced. For most people this is like being a white German in Nazi Germany. Slavery is rife with most of the halflings in in Cheliax being slaves.
The adventure path takes place in Kintargo, a prosperous and comsmopolitan town with barely any hint of the infernal influence rampant in most Chelish cities. That was until recently when an open rebellion against house Thrune was put down by the Chelish authorities and a new lord-mayor was installed into Kintargo – the Asmodean inquisitor Paracount Barzillai Thrune.
As the adventure begins Kintargo is under martial law with new laws being instated often and many citizens beginning to chafe under the restraints of the new lord-mayor even though he’s only been in power for around a week.
The adventure path rail roads the party a little at first, it assumes that the players want to resist House Thrune and start a rebellion against the Thrunish Lord Mayor. If these aren’t true the campaign will be brief…
For a bit more background on the campaign, information about the location where the adventure path takes place, recommendations for building a thematic/campaign appropriate character and adventure path specific traits check out the Hell’s Rebels Player’s Guide (free PDF).
