Hell’s Rebels Session 11 – The real saboteur

Present: Quill Venger (Gaz), Soldar Dawnbrace (Ben), Umo Ankora (James)

The rats swarmed forth from the sewer pipes and attacked the party as the imp turned invisible. A tough battle followed which saw Soldar felled. The creature demanded the party tear up her contract, or forfeit the Halfling’s life. Quill did as asked, tearing up what appeared to be a recipe for cheese scones, and the battle was done as the creature immolated leaving only a pile of soot and ash.

With the true saboteur vanquished attention returned to Morgar and his trial. Several styles of trial were suggested, including; trial by combat (Umo), trial by flight (Boudra) and trial by archery (Bowmer). Quill is resolute that the Silver Ravens judge by jury whether Morgar was influenced or acting of his own volition and that the other forms of trial are more akin to Thrune’s tactics, forcing a result rather than being judged fairly by peers.

Umo as prosecution was remarkably eloquent for a man of little education. He implored the jury to punish Morgar in the most severe way, so much so that Soldar kept speaking out from the jury box. Even when told not to do so. The Halfling insisted a major difference between Thrune and the Silver Ravens was their willingness to give people a second chance. He soon found himself part of the defence team as a confusing set of back and forth occurred, fully understandable by only those who were present for Morgar’s initial capture and interview.

At the height of the debate Umo threw down a blade so that Morgar could “do the honourable thing”, only to have Soldar kick it away.

Seeing no way to salvage the trial Quill called upon the jury to deliberate, with one member clarifying that the goal was for them to decide whether they believed Morgar had been coerced or not.

After time for deliberation the jury returned, their verdict that Morgar was coerced. Quill already knew the cost of the crime; he apologised for Morgar’s tragic fate but stated he must condemn the man to banishment from Kintargo, not to return until after the Silver Raven’s campaign against Thrune has ended.

On his way back to his rooms Quill rediscovered the soot and ash left behind by the imp and the stash of treasure within.
