Our party are:
- Corwin: a curious fellow and agent of old Bes
- Hector: a former slave with a painted face who wields magic through his poppet
- Montague: a dashing young fellow with a romantic notion of life at sea
- William: a man of means with a taste for the sweet life
Leaving the giant crab and coconuts to collect on their return the away team continue to follow the worn old trail deeper into the island interior. It takes them to an overgrown corn field guarded by decaying heads on staves and with bones scattered about amongst the corn. As the pirates cross the field a large bug-creature burrows beneath them and attacks Billy at the rear. Despite the darkness of night and the cover of the overgrown fields the party best the Ankheg and loot the corpses which litter the field before continuing along the path.
As the jungle grows denser Montague notices a humanoid skeleton hung from a tree, like some kind of twisted marionette. On closer inspection the party realise it is a composite of multiple skeletons and the bones are not only covered in scrimshaw but that they have also been gnawed on. Corwin recalls tales of the Grindylow marking their domains in this fashion before Montague cuts the sentinel down and the party continue through the jungle and up the rocky cliff side.
On the ascent up the cliffside the party notice a small brook and realise the water source they seek is at the cliff’s apex. Arriving at the top around midnight they find a small abandoned stockade surrounding a freshwater spring. On the stockade walls a spyglass is fixed pointing South and looking through the crew see a pair of the octo-goblin Grindylow prancing near a fire on the islands shore. One of them is clearly wearing Sandara Quinn’s tricorne.
Turning away from the spyglass the pirates see strange, long-limbed vine creatures descending from the tree next to the spring around which the stockade was built. They do quick battle with the creatures and, despite their weary state, come out on top with minimal injuries thanks in no small part to Hector’s dominated ghoul Alice and his negative energy restoring the ghouls unlife force.
The team resolve to head south down the cliff to the shore, where they saw Grindylow, in search of Sandara and Rosie. But before that they can’t resist the urge to check out the stockade’s cabin. As they enter they see a hanged man with hooded head dangling from the cabin’s rafter. Corwin immediately begins patting down the body for coin or other treasures when the corpse moves and begins grasping at him…
