S&S 21: Revenge Is Sworn

Our crew are:

  • Corwin: a curious fellow and agent of old Bes
  • Hector: a former slave with a painted face who wields magic through his poppet
  • Riis: a well-dressed man, out of place
  • Tallow: a creature of the sea with skills in the martial arts

As the screams of the Grindylow Brinebrood Queen ring out and the crew members they’ve spent the past two days seeking plummet to the water the away team spring into action.

The gigantic Grindylow known as the Whale surges forth and blocks passage into the cavern, but Tallow selflessly swims past the creature barely surviving the the bite it lands on him before decimating the bindings holding Rosie and Sandara, allowing them to catch their breath and a chance to contribute to the skirmish ahead.

The Whale prevents the rest of the crew from entering the cavern and proceeds to snack on Riis and chew up Corwin. Hector uses his poppet to deliver Inflict Wounds spells on the Whale and as all looks lost, with several of the crew being near death, Tallow swims up from behind to land the finishing blow.

Inside the cavern the Grindylow Queen didn’t pose much of a threat, apart from the Octopus she summoned to assist the Whale her spells had been largely ineffective and her harpoon consistently missed its mark. Rosie, despite being unarmed and severely injured, had done her best to hinder the Queen with unarmed strikes and attempted grapples whilst Sandara chanelled Besmara’s power both to heal those in the cavern and moments later to try and injure the Lacedons attacking from beneath the water.

As the Whale fell the Brinebrood Queen swore revenge on those who killed her son and shot from the cave on a jet stream.

Hector moved into the cavern and dominated one of the Lacedons whilst the other continued to be distracted feasting on Montague’s corpse which had dropped into the water alongside Rosie and Sandara.

The pirates were able to take the Grindylow’s treasures before fleeing the cove and heading back across the island to the beech where they had landed two days prior.

As they approach the beach the away team see the crew of the Man’s Promise on shore. The distinctive figure of Amrbose Kroop can be seen tending a firepit away from the rest of the crew, who are in consultation with Mr Plugg and Master Scourge. As the party survey the scene Rosie confides that she doesn’t know why Plugg hates them so, but that he plans to kill them…
