S&S 24: Captain on Deck

Our officers of the Man’s Promise are:

  • Captain Hector Salazar – a former slave with a painted face, who wields magic through his poppet.
  • Boatswain & Master at Arms Ole Yardley – a crazed old sailor who looks and smells like he should be dead.
  • Quartermaster Riis Byran – a well-dressed man, out of place.
  • Master of Sails Tallow – a creature of the sea with skills in the martial arts.
  • Master Gunner William Hathersmith – a man of means with a taste for the sweet life.

Idle this session due to player absence:

  • First Mate Corwin Gale – a curious fellow and agent of old Bes.

The new officers of the Man’s Promise spent some time strategising on the beach whilst their crew gathered themselves after the mutiny and carried the supplies from the island aboard the ship.

With their immediate plans set – to scoop up any loot from the Grindylow lair before moving on to have the Man’s Promise squibbed – the new officers boarded their ship.

Ole Yardley dragged the barely living Master Scourge and the corpse of Mr Plugg up to the forecastle, tying the two in a gruesome embrace about the foremast as a morbid figurehead.

After a brief tour of the areas of the ship they haven’t been privvy to before the crew set sail and took the ship about the island in order to collect any remaining loot from the Grindylow lair. As they slowed to weigh anchor they spotted a gargoyle figurehead beneath the waves and decided to investigate the ruins of a ship in the reef.

Having used a combination of their skills and magics to be more at ease in water the crew approach the submerged vessel and were confronted by a giant eel. Riis was grievously wounded in the short but furious clash that ended with Tallow defeating the eel.

Next time the crew will have a ruined ship and a grindylow lair to search for loot before setting sail for Rickety’s Squibs.
