LiLF Session 3 – A Grey adventure

Present: Montgomery (James), George (Gaz), Hans (Ben)

From his position hidden by the roadside Montgomery sees the Inn is on fire. Heading round to the garage to find water he stumbles on George’s body next to all of the party’s equipment. Montgomery revives George and tells him that he was barely able to get him out…

The two look into the front windows for survivors. Seeing a body George heads in, ducking a burst of flame, (Montgomery decides to stay outside where it’s safer) and finds Frederik with his throat opened.
Montgomery tells George he saw Frederik walk out of the tavern and towards Argyle, the same direction the girl went. Neither know which Frederik is real and decide to head to Theldenfeld, the nearest town.

As they journey they find the merchant’s wagon overturned by the road. A young man (Hans) tries to sneak up on George and Montgomery as they are inspecting the carriage. After suspicion and bluster from both sides each decides that it’s better if they travel together, so long as Hans walks in front,  as numbers are better in these dark times.

A little further down the road the party comes across slain horses which George recognises from the Incontinent Vicar’s garage. Hearing the sounds of combat ahead the party creep through a field, obscured from the road by hedges, to observe the two identical men facing off against each other with six bodies at their feet.

The party watch as one of the identical men kills the other and then doffs his chainmail before beginning to dig a hole. At this point they introduce themselves to Sir Boris and, finding him to be a holy knight, request his protection on their travels to Theldenfeld. They help him bury his fallen companions before travelling and as they are donning their armour once the task is done an armed and armoured nun, Sister Barbara, reveals that one of the orphans sir Boris’ order dropped at the orphanage is missing its papers.

After the events of the past two days the party put some pieces together and the prospect of a witch, or other evil, in the orphanage enrages Sir Boris. The party head with Sir Boris and Sister Barbara once George has been convinced a Nun’s orphanage will be a safe and restful place to rest.

The party are invited into the orphanage so long as their arms and armour are left outside, and invited to eat whilst Sir Boris and the nuns discuss events. As they sit down in the dining hall a commotion can be heard and a Nun rushes through to the kitchens and tosses papers into the cooking fire. Hans retrieves what he can whilst Montgomery fetches some broth for the party. George is refusing to be drawn in.

As the commotion increases and the nuns restrain Sir Boris Hans intercede’s only to be restrained by nuns also. They discover Sir Boris wants to kill as many children as is required to be certain the creature is dead and the party find a line they are unwilling to cross. They help the nuns lock Sir Boris into a prayer cell without his weapons.

Sister Magda tells the party her Sisters must convene and deliberate. Montgomery shares the events the party has witnessed and what little they have been able to discern.

The party decide to leave Sir Boris to the nuns and go and rest in Theldenfeld, though each agrees that the act Sir Boris proposes is barbaric and they’d kill him before letting him try. Montgomery seems determined to head back and hear the outcome once they are rested.
