Adventure
(Abram used his Sage background feature to determine places where he might find out more about the Gloam; he recalls that the city of Solemsburg, 6 or so days travel from here, has a college of magical arts with a great library. He’s also curious about the Spy, the fireplace creature, Sylvester’s return, Tazimack and the history of Tolm — for these he hopes the local Society for the Preservation of Tolm may have sufficient information amongst their records).
The road to Tolm is uneventful and the party return to the Ettin’s Den, where news of the landlord is eagerly sought. Sylvester returns immediately to his room to rest, Gallius joins him to return the items he recovered from Sylvester’s fallen body and advise him to be more cautious in future. Abram tries to bury himself in a book, yet Kantor engages him in some discussion. Kantor then heads upstairs to perform rites of soul cleansing on Sylvester, whether the Halfling wanted this or not, then on to his hut to rest.
Abram asks a woman he believes to be from the Society for the Preservation of Tolm whether he may access their records this evening in order to try and research Tazimack and Shadowbrook manor, Gallius heads with him to the Ancestral Hall. There they meet the head of the reeve’s guard, Giles, who lends Gallius the key to the Ancestral Hall so that they might spend the evening in research. They are able to begin adding some order to the collected notes of gossip and in the process discover that Tazimack once hired a local trapper to teach him the art of taxidermy. The two resolve to rest and return in the morning.
After waking from what may have been a dream where he felt a mouse of silvery light crawling out of his mouth Sylvester helps himself to the facilities at the Ettin’s Den and begins cooking a lavish breakfast. Gallius and Abram return to the Ancestral Hall to continue their research, bringing some of Sylvester’s cooking for Giles (after watching the Halfling be chastised by the cook for helping himself to the inn’s facilities and stock). In their research they discover that Tazimack once hired villagers from Tolm to go on an expedition to a serpent King’s tomb, the notes report that during the expedition a lantern bearer was scolded by Tazimack for entering a certain room in the tomb. Something about that specific room caused the wizard to rage when the lantern bearer entered. Gallius makes notes of the landmarks passed en-route to the tomb so that the party might try and find it and explore the tomb.
Kantor returned to the Ettin’s Den to gather the party and return to Shadowbrook manor. The only member present was Sylvester, who was eating his cooking with other patrons and refused to leave until he was sated. At his wits end Kantor grabs the unruly Sylvester by his ear and wrestles him to the door, only for the Halfling to break free and hide. Kantor discovers that Abram and Gallius are at the Ancestral Hall and heads there, gathering the rest of the party for departure.
Sylvester headed to the market alone in order to acquire himself a new shortbow. He lightened one travelling merchant’s purse in order to purchase from another.
